More Than Just a Machine

More Than Just a Machine

There are plenty of options available when you’re looking to purchase an industrial sewing machine, so how do you know you’re choosing the right company? In this blog we run through our process, what makes us different, and answer a few commonly asked questions such as: How are your machines delivered? What happens when you buy a machine online from us? Why does this machine appear to be available at a lower price from another company?

We supply industrial textile equipment to all sorts of customers, from hobby sewers buying their first industrial sewing machine to big name brands looking to invest in a full factory refit. This blog focuses on the process involved when you purchase a machine (or machines) online, but the build process is the same for any order!

Before You Order

If you aren’t sure which industrial sewing machine is the right choice for you, don't worry! Our website has plenty of resources and information to help guide you based on your application and personal requirements. If you still aren’t sure, get in touch with our team and we’ll be happy to help.

Placing Your Order

Ordering online is quick and simple, and you can even get a 5% discount when you sign up to our newsletter.

What Happens Next?

We build, set up, and test every machine before it leaves our workshop.

First, we build the stand

Then we laser engrave the tabletop with a 90cm ruler and our logo

Cut a space for the machine and sand off any rough edges

Next, we begin the build process, attaching the drawer and foot pedal, securing the wires, etc

Then the head is slotted into place, wired in, and the last components are assembled

It ends up looking something like this…

Standard table and stand dimensions for reference:

*Dimensions shown are for standard machines. Some, for example heavy duty/long arm machines will be larger. please check with the team before ordering if you have limited space.*

The Setup

Once everything is together, we thread up the machine and make any changes required to suit the customer’s individual needs.

Testing

We run a piece of material (or the customer’s fabric, if a sample has been sent in) through the machine in multiple directions to check that all the different settings and functions are working correctly. We call this “sewing off”, and it allows us to identify any changes that need to be made before sending the machine out.

Extras

We add a couple of extras to keep you going, including oil if the machine needs it, a spare pack of needles, and bobbins.

Palleting

Machines are sent out from our workshop on pallets (please get in touch with the team if you’d rather arrange a collection or delivery and installation).

First, we bolt the machine to the pallet, remove the thread stand and secure it to the base (as otherwise it would get damaged in transit!).

Then protect the table edges with foam corners.

Band the machine head to prevent moving in transit which can cause damage.

Then add a polystyrene cover to protect the head, again secured with banding.

The whole thing is wrapped up in protective wrap and sent out.

Delivery

When the machine is ready, our team will call you to confirm that you're happy to receive it the following working day. All you have to do when it arrives is remove it from the pallet and wheel it wherever it needs to go. Please note that Farrall’s delivery drivers are not employed by us and are under no obligation to assist you with getting the machine where you want it. In rare cases some may do so, but it is entirely at their discretion.

Extras

If standard equipment isn’t quite cutting it, our team of engineers are highly experienced at adapting machines with simple upgrades such as guides, pullers, and jigs. We can also program patterns and make other custom setups upon request. Please get in touch and we'll be happy to discuss options.

Support and Maintenance

Our team are on hand to provide ongoing support should you ever require assistance with your machine. Many issues are easy to resolve over the phone, sometimes it’s as simple as the needle being put in the wrong way!

We also stock a full range of parts, spares, and accessories to keep your machine going. All orders placed during our working hours are processed same day, although if they come in when our couriers have already collected, they will be shipped the following working day. This ensures that you aren’t waiting around for what you need and can get back to work as soon as possible.

Why are some other companies offering the same machine for a lower price?

We often get asked this question! The answer is simple, that it isn’t the same machine. The head itself will be the same, but that’s where the comparison ends. Other companies use

We aim to offer great value for money rather than the cheapest price.

We hope this blog has answered any questions you may have and let you know what to expect when you purchase a machine from us. If you have any further questions please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
